But one day is different - his pizza arrives thanks to a lovely young woman who succeeds in catching the shut-in's eye. Suddenly an earthquake strikes Tokyo, prompting the beautiful young delivery woman to faint in her client's apartment. And then the unthinkable happens - the hikikimori falls hopelessly in love. Time passes and the shut-in discovers through another pizza delivery person that the improbable object of his affections has become a hikikimori in her own right. Taking a bold leap into the unknown, our hero crosses the threshold of his apartment and takes to the streets in search of his mystery girl, at last discovering his kindred spirit at the very moment another earthquake strikes.

Vantage Point review by star757

Vantage Point Movie Review by star757

Buy the Movie Poster for Vantage Point.

This movie is very fast paced. Be prepared for a lot of action, and you need to pay attention to what's going on. This movie takes place in Spain. There is a global summit on terror where the President of the U.S. is coming to speak. As he stands up to speak he is shot. Who did it? What happened? And, why? The main star of the movie is Secret Service Agent Barnes, played by Dennis Quaid. He has been off duty ever since he took a bullet for the president, and now he will be tested at his first assignment back. Can he solve this mystery? The first hour of the movie follows several different "vantage points" of what occurs; a news station, Agent Barnes, an American tourist with a video camera, a Spanish police officer, the President, and the ones involved in the terrorist assassination plot. It is interesting because just when you think you're going to figure out what happened they rewind the action and you get to see what happened from someone else's point of view. Finally, you get to see how everything plays out. I enjoyed this movie. It has a lot of action and is fast paced. You keep trying to figure out how everyone's vantage point ties together to provide the whole picture. I would recommend it if you're looking for an action packed, suspenseful movie.

Miracle at St. Anna movie review by Derek_Fleek

Miracle at St. Anna Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Buy the Movie Poster for Miracle at St. Anna

Critically acclaimed Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee (Do The Right Thing) has touched many different controversial subjects by writing, producing, directing, and acting in films dealing with social, racial, and political issues. And though all of his work isn't masterful, his WWII epic Miracle at St. Anna has got to be one of his most accomplished films for many reasons.
Adapted from the well-received novel by James McBride (who also wrote the screenplay), this WWII epic follows four members of the U.S. Army's all-black 92nd Infantry Division (Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonso, and Omar Benson Miller) as they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines after one risked his life to save an Italian boy. They place most of their belief in this young Italian boy and an artifact hundreds of years old found in a gutter, both believed to be miracles. These soldiers, also called the Buffalo Soldiers, show courage and strength that lead to more than just a single miracle in the process of attempting to save a village in distress.
There's a story within the story, and it's really good. Try and figure it out. Interspersed with captivating subplots and subtle humor, Miracle at St. Anna (although teetering on an uneven scale at times) is brilliant filmmaking and one of the best films of 2008. Its dialog is crisp and the performances are convincing enough to cause a viewer to work up some tears. It's been a decade or so since we've seen a war film this well written, directed, and acted. The cast, composed primarily of African American actors, are top notch and Oscar-worthy. This gripping and powerful story of bravery, sacrifice, friendship, and (ahem) miracles is well paced and superbly directed.
This is intriguing, meaningful, sincere, thought-provoking, and extremely powerful work. I applaud both the cast and crew for this magnificent achievement. With spectacular performances (particularly from Omar Benson Miller and Laz Alonzo), superb writing, and skilled craftsmanship, Miracle at St. Anna takes a depressing subject matter and provides a disturbing and harrowing experience with a moving and uplifting aftermath. This is Lee's first film in years to reach greatness, a true masterpiece.
It would be easy to argue that at 160 minutes, Miracle at St. Anna is too long. Let me assure you, it's worth your time and money. It's full of talented actors (some of whom just make cameo appearances) and maintains a sustained momentum. That the entire cast ace each line and every scene (though some are massively brutal, disturbing, and bound to be controversial) is a wonder to behold. And it ends in a refined and hopeful manner. You're only left with one question: who is The Sleeping Man?
Although the DVD is absent of special features, you can always watch the movie again. It's a fantastic film. However, there is a section that includes sneak peeks of films that include Happy Go Lucky, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Doubt, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Blindness. Be sure to catch this DVD from Touchstone Pictures, it's a marvel. 5/5 stars

88 Minutes Movie Review by star757

Buy the Movie Poster for 88 Minutes

This movie stars Al Pacino as a forensic psychologist and college professor. He helps put away a serial killer at the beginning of the movie with no concrete evidence other than his analysis. About ten years later the man is set to be executed when the killings start happening again. And, they happen to people connected with Al Pacino's character. He receives a call on his cell phone stating he has 88 minutes to live. Meanwhile the serial killer is trying to appeal saying he must not be the killer with the new crimes occurring. What will happen? Who is behind it all? Someone close to the psychologist, maybe one of his students? The movie follows Al Pacino as he tries to keep the serial killer in jail and find out who is committing the new crimes, with the help of his assistant and some of his students. The movie is full of action and keeps moving the whole time. You see some flashbacks of his life and why he is who he is now. The movie was ok, but it could have been better. When you watch it, it just seems like something is missing. There are a lot of characters that you don't know much about. It was a good movie, but could have been a lot better.

Eagle Eye Movie Review by Moviejunkie

Eagle Eye Movie Review by Moviejunkie

Buy the Movie Poster for Eagle Eye

Often times while watching movies the viewers will ask themselves, 'Could this really happen?' That question is raised in this thriller executive produced by Steven Speilberg, starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan. LaBeouf plays Jerry Shaw, a copy boy who receives threatening phone calls from an anonymous woman placing him in the center of a terrorist plot. After escaping FBI custody he crosses paths with Monaghan's Rachel Holloman, a single mom who's son is threatened when she too receives mysterious phone calls. The duo then find themselves on the run from the government and the unknown voice.

Greatly influence by films like 'Wars Games' and 'The Bourne Series', director DJ Caruso who also directed the surprise hit of 20007 'Disturbia' has created an intelligence nail-biter. La Beouf proves again why he's one of the most talented young actors working today. Making the most of every scene with a full range of emotions. The film truly stands out thanks to the rich supporting cast including Billy Bob Thorton and Rosario Dawson among others. The cast is so well-rounded, I mean you have every role really moves the storyline forward. There are no wasted roles in this movie.

One of the great things about this movie is that of the almost absurd circumstances where there is some unknown group of people or computer sorta controlling movement of everything. The entire time the cast maintain the proper element of disbelief. It does feel real and makes you question how much technology plays into our everyday lives, from the ATMs to the cameras following them.

The car chases in the movie rival the best of them, and they look like real crashes. With Micheal Bay it would've been stylized, it would be hollywood crashes - computerized, CGI, green screened or something like that. They have real cars. Also it has the most clever 'on-foot' chase I've ever seen within an airport. Eagle Eye never fails to grab your attention with the incredible action sequences.

As much as I loved this movie, it's not perfect in fact the ending I did have problems with. However what I really love are the political undertones of the film suggesting that almost like '2001: A Space Odssesy' that there's a big brother out there and there watching you. Make you want to rethink what you e-mail, text message or take the batery out your cell phone.

MONSTER depicts the story of the woman called America's first female serial killer, Aileen Wuornos a hitchhiking prostitute who killed seven male clients during the 1980's. The beautiful Charlize Theron undergoes one of the most amazing pysichal transformation since Robert DeNiro in RAGING BULL. Christina Ricci also stars in one of her best roles to date as Shelby, a troubled needy lesbian. Even though Aileen is not gay, she is drawn to Shelby and Aileen fascinates her. Selby throws Aileen off with her naive but sincere affection.

MONSTER is an unblinking disturbing portrait of a killer. In a performance that goes beyond weight gain and make-up techniques, Charlize Theron truly worthy of her Best Actress win at the oscars. Shes plays Wuornos as fearless and disturbed but she also manages to humanize this monster. This is an astonishing powerful piece of raw acting. MONSTER had me mesmerized with everything that was happening on screen. What happens in this movie is almost beyond words to describe and the performance of Theron is one of the best performances by a actress I've ever seen in a movie.

She envokes the mind and soul of this woman ansd the presence is so focus, so tense, so true that although she is a monster we feel deep sympathy for her. Ricci's character is also crucial as the character who never really comprehends her tortured spirit. Charlize Theron has been in some descent/good films before this , but we've never had any hint that she was capable of this performance in this incredible piece of work.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Movie Reivew by Moviejunkie

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Movie Reivew by Moviejunkie

Buy the Movie Poster for Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER is a low-budget independent shocker and is without a doubt, one of the most disturbing films ever made. It is based on the real life exploits of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas.

Henry appears to be a regular guy. Calm, and soft-spoken, actually mild-mannered on the outside. Underneath, an unspeakable rage with all the fury of hell, simmering inside him, constantly searching for someone, anyone to kill.

After being released from prison for the murder of his abusive(physically and mentally)mother and her boyfriend, psychopath Henry takes up residence with an old friend from prison. Meet Otis Toole, played to perfection by Tom Towles, a man, who was apparently born to play the role of "deranged white trash redneck." Things get complicated when Otis's sister Becky decides to move in with them because of some problems back home.

Before you know it, Henry introduces the splendor of cold-blooded murder to Otis, and they become a really sickening pair of homicidal maniacs. At times, Otis seems even more sadistic than Henry.

The beautiful part of this film is that it does not focus on why they kill, but more on the psyche of their killings. These killers feel no remorse for their victims, and think killing is a game. It's just killing for the sake of killing. The film is completely unflinching and grimly realistic and brilliantly acted and directed.

This is a solidly horrifying film that you wont soon forget.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans movie review by Moviejunkie

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Movie Review by Moviejunkie

Buy the Movie Poster for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the third installment of films in the Underworld series. It is a prequel set prior to 'Underworld' and 'Underworld: Evolution'. The prequel traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the vampires and the Lycans, "werewolves". A young Lycan named Lucian(Michael Sheen)emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighty) the vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian has a Lucian relationship with Viktor's daughter Sonja (Rhona Mitra), they join together to rally his fellow Lycans into freedom.
I must admit that Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans is not a bad movie, for anyone who has seen the first to movies this movie is just a extended look at the franchise's oh-so detailed mythology, a more in-depth telling of the flashbacks in underworld.
As with the last two installments we are still treated to fairly awful dialogue and the vampires still aren't as developed as characters as they should be. But at least Michael Sheen is given a bit more of a role to bite into and the story keeps things simple, allowing the action to move on nicely. Rhona Mitra is a decent actress and a good pick for the role.

This was an action packed, interesting movie to watch. It stars Shia LaBeouf as Jerry Shaw an underachiever who is all of sudden finds his apartment filled with weapons and is taken into custody by the FBI. Michelle Monaghan stars as Rachel Holloman, a single mom who has just sent her son to Washington,D.C. to play with the school band. These two get tied together as they keep receiving phone calls from some woman who tells them what to do, with no explanations, or else. Somehow the air force is tied into this as well, as Jerry's twin brother, an air force officer, dies at the beginning of the movie. This is an action filled movie as Jerry and Rachel rush to comply with the phone calls, to stay away from the FBI and for Rachel to save her son. What is going on? Where do the phone calls come from? Are Rachel and Jerry working for terrorists as the gov't. thinks? I thought this was a good movie. The main characters are interesting and the movie keeps you watching the whole time. You'd think this was just another movie about a bad guy/terrorist who wants something from the gov't., but there's something else to it. Overall I would recommend it if you're looking for a good action/suspense movie.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D movie review by Moviejunkie

My Bloody Valentine 3-D Movie Review by Moviejunkie

Buy the Movie Poster for My Bloody Valentine 3-D

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D remakes the 1981 Canadian slasher film of the same name. It's the first R-Rated film to be projected in Real D technology. It's also available in 2D for theaters that are not equipped to process new digital 3D technology.
The movie is about psychopathic miner that terrorizes the town of Harmony. 10-years ago, the lone survivor of an accident deep in the mines awoke from a coma and slashed his way through the town in a bloody, vengeance-fueled rampage. Though shot and apparently killed, the memories of Harry Warden still haunt both the town and Tom Hanniger (Jenes Akens), the heir to the mine and one of the last people to see Harry before his disappearance. Ten years later, on the anniversary of the slaughter Tom returns to town to take ownership of his family's mine. While he mends his torn relationship with his ex-girlfriend Sarah (Jamie King) and her husband Axl (Kerr Smith). Almost as soon as Tom arrives in town the killings ramp up again as someone in a gas mask and mining uniform recommences pick-axing townspeople one by one in spectacularly gruesome fashion (all presented in 3-D)and ripping out their hearts to make grotesque Valentines.
First, this film looks gorgeous. The 3D is so effective and the colors and camera shots are crisp and life-like. The setting is perfect and very reminiscent of the town from the original. The acting is decent from all involved and the script and dialogue are not bad either. My Bloody Valentine delivers exactly what your for if you see this movie: plenty of gore in the tradition of 70s/80s slasher pics. The gore effects are brought to us in glorious 3D, which makes it all that more great. They use all the old slasher plot devices and characters to tell the story.
"My Bloody Valentine 3D" is not a straight remake as much as it is a "reimagining." We get the same basic premise--a killer in a miner's outfit killing off people during the Valentine holiday--and even get the same character's, but a lot is switched up here. Still the changes do not ruin the concept of the original. With everything said; if you like a cool slasher film and fun, check this film out in 3D. You will definitely be glad you did.

Blindness Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Blindness Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Buy the Movie Poster for Blindness

Based on Nobel Prize-winning writer Jose Saramago's novel and released in October of 2008, Blindness was virtually unseen by audiences, making lousy numbers at the box office. It wasn't a film anyone rushed out to see in theaters, and certainly isn't a film to catch on DVD if you missed its theatrical run. Simply put, it's the worst so-called thriller of 2008.

An epidemic of blindness is sweeping across the country and many people are experiencing what is being called "The White Sickness". Once infected, the blind are isolated in a hospital and soon split up into groups, some of which are forcing others to pay for food in various depraved ways. Only one woman is immune to the epidemic and soon realizes that seeing happens to be just as disturbing as being blind.

Depressing and unsystematic, the film slowly goes nowhere and provides more than less interest than one would expect from such a concept as epidemic blindness. As people slowly go blind, the viewer is quickly plagued with excessive sleepiness. Blindness is a bore-fest from beginning to end without any shocks or surprises whatsoever, and the acting is below mediocre.

Loaded with pretension and a fistful of unintentional laughter (nothing is funnier than seeing a group of blind people try to raise their glasses in a toast), Blindness largely fails to be even remotely thrilling, daring, or meaningful as it aspires to be. The cast provided is merely there for star power (Danny Glover and Julianne Moore shamefully do nothing exceptional) and more often than not you're looking at a pitch black or bright white screen; it's insanely annoying to sit through.

Blindness is unfortunately haunted by a script and director that drive its intriguing concept directly into the ground. Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles' second American feature (the first being The Constant Gardner) seems underwritten, and confused as to where it wants to go. It's unintelligent, ugly, overlong, and tedious.

All in all, it's a largely brainless affair with no thrills, no style, and nothing for viewers to cling to. The visual awkwardness and off-centered camerawork is, to a great extent, distracting and irksome. It quickly becomes questionable why this was dubbed as a thriller. It's more or less an ineffective and unintelligent apocalyptic dud. And when it ends, it ends with you pleased they didn't add another thirty minutes to answer crucial questions.

Special features are something to look forward to when disliking a film. It sometimes helps a person appreciate the film much more. This isn't the case with Blindness. The special features include "A Vision of Blindness," a making of documentary that implies how much strenuous effort was put into making this appalling film (student filmmakers take notes) and five deleted scenes with written introductions by director Meirelles. The DVD is available February 10, but I strongly suggest saving your time and money. 1/5 stars

Coming soon: Duplicity, starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen

Duplicity comes out March 20 and stars Julia Roberts and Clive Owen as spies-turned-corporate operatives.

Oscar® winner Julia Roberts and Clive Owen reunite for Duplicity, from writer/director Tony Gilroy (seven-time Oscar®-nominated Michael Clayton). In the film, they star as spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves on either side of an all-out corporate war, they discover the toughest part of the job is deciding how much to trust the one you love. CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen) have left the world of government intelligence to cash in on the highly profitable cold war raging between two rival multinational corporations. Their mission? Secure the formula for a product that will bring a fortune to the company that patents it first. For their employers—industry titan Howard Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and buccaneer CEO Dick Garsik (Paul Giamatti)—nothing is out of bounds. Blood Diamond movie review by star757

Blood Diamond Movie Review by star757

Buy the Movie Poster for Blood Diamond

This movie is about diamonds mined in Africa. It begins with the RUF raiding a village in Sierra Leone. They drive the people from their homes, kill people, cut off their hands, and take the strongest men to work the diamond mines. Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounson) is one of the men taken and separated from his wife, baby and beloved son. This is a very grim movie, violent and all the more scary because of the reality it is based on. It also stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, an African and diamond smuggler. Jennifer Connoley plays Maddy Bowen, a journalist interested in Danny's smuggling and learning who is really behind it. The whole movie follows Solomon who found a large pink diamond worth a lot of money. He hides it, but when he crosses paths with Danny their lives become linked. Danny wants the diamond, and Solomon wants to find his family. A very good movie, but violent and difficult to watch at points. It's hard to imagine that things really happen like this. A very well told story, and you really feel for the characters.

Soul Men Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Soul Men Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

2008 was a year we lost a lot of talent in the film industry, comedy buisness, and music enterprise. Of said talent, the comedy business and film industry took a major blow when comedian/actor Bernie Mac passed away after a battle with pneumonia, and the music enterprise mourned the death of soul legend Isaac Hayes from a suspected stroke. Although these legends didn't end on what some would call a high note with their last film Soul Men, it's obvious they went out in style. 2.5/5 stars

The unexpected death of the lead singer for a formerly famous trio dubbed The Real Deal reunites two of the band's out of shape singers, Louis Hinds (Jackson) and Floyd Henderson (Mac), to sing a tribute song in honor of their dead friend. Stopping for gigs at cities along the way and resolving past issues, the two become closer than ever.

Samuel L. Jackson and the late Bernie Mac gleam with energy and their performances are certainly upbeat. But with an uninspired plot and large amounts of foul language, Soul Men isn't exactly music to the ears. All in all, there isn't a whole lot of comedy to be found in this music-assisted buddy flick. However, it's great to see the spirit in Bernie Mac (who is gifted with some good lines and hilarious facial expressions) that shows his last movie was one that he could relate to and enjoyed making.

Director Malcolm D. Lee (Undercover Brother, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins) skips teenage-based comedy and turns to the rude and crude sexual humor that this generation of moviegoers loves and hates. Some of the comedy here is too broad, but doesn't go without hitting its mark from time to time.

Soul Men has talent and it shows on occasion. It all depends on what type of humor you desire. When it's not being the sporadically funny and toe-tapping entertainment it aspires to be, it's a rather offensive, predictable, and somewhat sappy story of misguided friendship. Unless your definition of funny is myriad amounts of mother-effers and cliched sexual jokes that revolve around prolonged erections and denture removal, you might want to reconsider.

It goes without saying that having a film featuring two late, great legends is a treat all its own. It's just a shame that things didn't work as well as expected as this could have been much better. Nonetheless, Soul Men is a showcase for Bernie Mac's talent and features some toe-tappin' soul music.

Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes were good men with big hearts and the special features on Soul Men prove it. Included is commentary by director Malcolm D. Lee and writers Matt Stone and Rob Ramsey, two magnificent tributes to both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes, interviews with the cast and crew, "Boogie Ain't Nuttin': Behind-The-Scenes", "Bernie Mac at The Apollo", and a theatrical trailer for Soul Men.

Upcoming documentary release: Brothers At War

Check out the upcoming documentary, Brothers at War.

The documentary film follows Jake Rademacher in his directorial debut as he sets out to understand the experience, sacrifice, and motivation of his two brothers serving in Iraq. Unprecedented access to US and Iraqi combat units take Jake behind the camouflage curtain with secret reconnaissance troops on the Syrian border, into sniper "hide sites" in the Sunni Triangle, through raging machine gun battles with the Iraqi Army. BROTHERS AT WAR is a rare look at the bonds and service of our soldiers on the frontlines and the profound effects their service has on the loved ones they leave behind.
