The Back-Up Plan Trailer

After years of dating, Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) has decided waiting for the right one is taking too long. Determined to become a mother, she commits to a plan, makes an appointment and decides to go it alone. On the day of her artificial insemination, Zoe meets Stan (Alex O’Loughlin) – a man with real possibilities. Trying to nurture a budding relationship and hide the early signs of pregnancy becomes a comedy of errors for Zoe and creates confusing signals for Stan. When Zoe nervously reveals the reason for her unpredictable behavior, Stan commits fully and says he’s in. Never before has love seen a courtship where a wild night of sex involves three in a bed – Stan, Zoe and the ever-present massive pregnancy pillow. Or, where “date night” consists of being the “focal point” at a near-stranger’s water birth which does for kiddie pools what “Jaws” did for swimming in the ocean. The real pregnancy test comes when both of them realize they really don’t know each other outside of hormonal chaos and birth preparations. With the nine month clock ticking, both begin to experience cold feet. Anyone can fall in love, get married and have a baby but doing it backwards in hyper-drive could be proof positive that they were made for each other.

Watch it in theaters April 16, 2010. Check out the new trailer and facebook page.

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare -- they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe, contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable -- he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Facing Ali Movie Review by dittlit

Facing Ali Movie Review by dittlit

Buy the Movie Poster for Facing Ali

I was not born when the golden age of boxing took place, but I have heard and seen stories about the Greatest boxer of all time. Ali was an athlete that brought the casual viewer to the great sport of boxing. From his charisma to his unbelievable skills everyone wanted to see what this great boxer would do next. Often Ali was underestimated, whether it be him becoming the youngest champion against Sonny Liston, or coming back from a 3 year hiatus due to his refusal to be drafted in the Vietnam War. Somehow though when the 15th round came around, Ali was still standing, floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee. Facing Ali goes back to the beginning of Ali's career and chronicles through the eyes of George Chuvalo, Sir Henry Cooper, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Ernie Shaver, Leon Spinks, Ernie Terrell all men who met Ali in the ring. This DVD has some great footage and current interviews with each of the great fighters. All of the fighters lives were touched and pushed to the limit by Ali. I was most interested in the interviews with Joe Frazier, because Ali's trash talk toward Frazier was legendary, and there three fights are considered the greatest ever. Frazier still has a healthy respect for Ali, but you had the sense that he still harbored a disdain for some of the things Ali said about him. I was amazed how each of the fighters lives had changed after fighting Ali, and you get to see some of the behind the scenes action before the big fights. The best part of the whole DVD though is the footage of the fights. Ali was a master in the ring and had the heart of a champion. He was supremely confident in his ability and did not care how others viewed his religious views. His views may have been controversial, but no one can deny his boxing prowess. This DVD makes you yearn for the days when boxing was the most important sport in the U.S. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking to learn more about Ali, or someone like myself who only knew Ali through limited old footage. Because like Ali said, He must be the greatest.

Avatar!!

Avatar, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, and The Young Victoria are now out in theaters. Look for other great movie reviews, write your own, and buy movie posters on Popcornmonsters.com.

Watch the trailer for Avatar.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic," first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story. We enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. But despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart. He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth's energy crisis. Because the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human "drivers" have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora... the Na'vi. Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na'vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na'vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake's life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan, and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures. As Jake's relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na'vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

Romantic-comedy regulars Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker finally unite in this fish-out-of-water laugher. The actors play Paul and Meryl Morgan, a Manhattan couple whose marriage is in danger. But it turns out all they may need is a change of scenery: when the Morgans witness a murder and are sent by the government to small-town Wyoming to hide from the killers, their marriage shows signs of recovery. DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS? also stars Sam Elliott, Mary Steenburgen, and Elisabeth Moss.

House on Haunted Hill Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

House on Haunted Hill Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

RiffTrax - House on Haunted Hill

The around-the-clock annoyance continues with yet another addition to the RiffTrax DVD collection. Oh well, at least you get a classic movie to fall back on.

The crew from Mystery Science Theater 3000 are up to their usual simple-minded routine; where their jokes are of either immediate miscarries (the occasional chuckle arises out of the blue,) and where the strength of annoyance overcomes the few and far between enjoyment that surprisingly leaps to the occasion. The ever so popular RiffTrax DVD commentary once again turns a classic into a medial affair. Why? Why take a good classic and make it escapade? That's a question that needs to be directed to Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of MST3K.

Six oblivious guests in desperate need of money are to put their nerves to the test after being offered a large sum of money to stay overnight at a haunted house. Given the choice to leave before midnight, the guests are acquainted with the rules of the party and must decide if they should stay and collect, or leave just as penniless as they were when they arrived.

Starring the late, great Vincent Price, House on Haunted Hill is a true classic and possesses the je ne sais quoi that Vincent Price brings to every film he is in, elevating it above and beyond any average haunted house motion picture, past or present. Unfortunately, there are three guests who were not invited to the party and decide to crack jokes throughout the entirety of an engaging film with their seemingly ceaseless, habitual jokes that can only leave one irritated and, the very last thing you want to be when watching a movie — bored to death!

Much like the occasional group of deadbeats who shoot the breeze at the theater, making you want to chuck your beverages at them just to shut them up (only this time you don't even have that privilege), the crew of MST3K once again provide a mental analysis as to why their show was canceled. Maybe next time they will make take a well-deserved shot, not assuming they will succeed, at ruining an M. Night Shyamalan film instead of a '50s horror classic.

Bottom line: Rent the movie, but skip the RiffTrax unless you are a fan of MST3K

RiffTrax Rating: 1.5/5 Stars

Movie Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

My Favorite Christmas Movies

Here are some of my favorite Christmas movies. Any other good ones we've missed?

Two talented song-and-dance men--reserve officers--team up after the war with a sister act and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas. Shenanigans begin when they discover that the inn they've chosen is run by their old army general, who's in financial trouble.
My absolute favorite Christmas movie; the best of all time.

Third in the "National Lampoon" series about the Griswold family. In this sequel, the Griswolds must deal with a holiday with their in-laws.
Chevy Chase is hilarious. You always catch something new and this movie is still funny every year.

A contemporary comedy based on Charles Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol," focusing on a television executive who decides to exploit the holidays in order to boost ratings.

A funny movie, and Bill Murray is great.

Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI.’’ However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis’ men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous “Lady in Red’’ to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

Drugs, murder, gangsters and a mystery. This movie stars Tom Berenger as defense attorney Steven Luisi. His client was just released from prison and is now arrested for a double homicide he didn't commit. Steven has to solve the case and overcome his own problems in the process. He does a good job portraying a down and out man with a past drug problem and a family tragedy. No one thinks he can do any good. Busta Rhymes stars as Bowen, a violent drug dealer who really committed the murders. Will he get away with it, and who is really behind him calling the shots? With the help of a gang member, Steven will have to get to the bottom of everything, even though the system is against him. Overall it was a good movie. A lot of action, and not many slow points in the movie. It is a bit violent, which I guess you would expect from a crime/gangster movie. The story line is simple and easy to follow. I thought the casting was good for the movie and the acting was well done. Worth a watch if you like a lawyer movie with crime, violence, and a mystery.

Wonderful World on VOD, Amazon and XBOX Live, and in theatres January 8

Ben Singer (Matthew Broderick) is a failed children's folk singer, a career proofreader, a compulsive marijuana smoker, and a less-than-extraordinary weekend dad. He's also the most negative man alive. Floundering in all aspects of his life, Ben's only comfort comes from regular chess games and friendly debates on game theory with his Senegalese roommate Ibou (Michael Kenneth Williams). When Ibou is suddenly struck ill, and an insensitive municipal employee exacerbates the emergency situation, Ben's pessimistic worldview seems unequivocally confirmed. His only recourse is to pour his energies into a frivolous lawsuit against the city for depraved indifference. But Ben soon finds that cynicism may be all a matter of perspective.

The Spy Next Door - in theaters January 15

Lionsgate and Relativity Media’s family action comedy THE SPY NEXT DOOR stars Jackie Chan as Bob Ho, an undercover CIA superspy who decides to give up his career in espionage to settle down with his next-door neighbor and girlfriend, Gillian (Amber Valletta). But Bob has one more mission to complete before Gillian agrees to marry him: winning over her three opinionated kids. When Gillian suddenly has to leave town, Bob volunteers to babysit the children so he can earn their approval. But when one of the kids mistakenly downloads a top-secret formula from his computer, Bob’s archenemy, a Russian terrorist, moves in for the attack, forcing Bob to juggle the roles of spy and prospective stepfather in the most challenging mission of his career!
