New Movies for Everyone!!

There are 5 new movies for you to see. Something for everyone from comedy, thriller, foreign, and dramas. Tell us what you think after you see them. Look for other great movie reviews, write your own, and buy movie posters on Popcornmonsters.com.

Watch the trailer for Cop Out.

Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter's upcoming wedding, and Paul is his "partner-against-crime" whose preoccupation with his wife's alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

Watch the trailer for The Crazies.

Imagine living in a small town where everything is safe and happy…until suddenly it isn’t. Imagine your friends and neighbors going quickly and horrifically insane. In a terrifying tale of the “American Dream” gone horribly wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown in The Crazies, a reinvention of the George Romero classic directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). David Dutten (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house…after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town has transformed into a sickening asylum; people who days ago lived quiet, unremarkable lives have now become depraved, blood-thirsty killers, hiding in the darkness with guns and knives. Sheriff Dutten tries to make sense of what’s happening as the horrific, nonsensical violence escalates. Something is infecting the citizens of Ogden Marsh…with insanity. Now complete anarchy reigns as one by one the townsfolk succumb to an unknown toxin and turn sadistically violent. In an effort to keep the madness contained, the government uses deadly force to close off all access and won’t let anyone in or out – even those uninfected. The few still sane find themselves trapped: Sheriff Dutten; his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell); Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson), Dutten’s deputy and right-hand man. Forced to band together, an ordinary night becomes a horrifying struggle for survival as they do their best to get out of town alive.

Watch the trailer for The Yellow Handkerchief.

Brett Hanson is an ex-convict, just released from prison after serving six years for manslaughter and now adrift in a world of new freedoms and responsibilities. Finding initial difficulties in reconciling himself to a troubled past, Brett crosses paths with lonely and troubled teenager Martine and her new 'ride' Gordy. The trio head out in the same car and direction--Martine to cut loose and get away from her family, Gordy to get closer to Martine, and Brett who must decide whether he wants to return to his troubled past and an uncertainty with May, the woman that he left behind. Once on the road, the trio find their relationships forging and changing in myriad ways, but it is Brett's story and his need to reconcile his past to his future that drives the two young people to reassess their own passages as well.

Watch the trailer for Defendor.

Bruised and beaten, arm in a sling, neck in a brace, Arthur Poppington sits in front of court-appointed psychologist Ellen Chum. After making her swear to secrecy, Poppington begins to tell the story of his secret life as "Defendor" - yes, that's an "OR" - spelling is not one of his super powers. By day, Poppington directs traffic around road construction sites, but at night he dons a pair of black tights, a black jersey with a crude "D" duct-taped to his chest, and trawls the streets as his alter ago. As Defendor, Poppington engages in what he believes is a super heroic fight against crime in an attempt to fulfill his unrealized dream of capturing his archrival, Captain Industry - a gun trafficking crime lord who Poppington mistankenly believes is responsible for the death of his mother. Defendor's problems with the law begin with his intervention in a trick gone bad. When coming to the aid of Katerina Debrofkowitz, an underage prostitute, Defendor tangles with her pimp, Chuck Dooney - a crooked undercover cop. By doing so, Defendor bumbles his way into a criminal underworld, and the stage is set for a showdown with Captain Industry.

Watch the trailer for A Prophet.

Condemned to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena, part Arab, part Corsican, cannot read or write. Arriving at the jail entirely alone, he appears younger and more fragile than the other convicts. He is 19 years old. Cornered by the leader of the Corsican gang currently ruling the prison, he is given a number of "missions" to carry out, toughening him up and gaining the gang leader's confidence in the process. Malik is a fast learner and rises up the prison ranks, all the while secretly devising his own plans.

The Eclipse wins 3 awards at The Irish Film & TV Awards

With THE ECLIPSE, Tony Award-nominated writer/director Conor McPherson (SHINING CITY, THE SEAFARER) brings his dramatic powers to the screen in horror-love story hybrid. Ciarán Hinds (MUNICH, THERE WILL BE BLOOD) plays a widower living in an Irish seaside town who is struggling to adjust to his new role as the sole caretaker of his two children. When he volunteers at a local literary festival, his life converges with an author of supernatural fiction (Iben Hjejle, HIGH FIDELITY) and a self-obsessed novelist (Aidan Quinn, LEGENDS OF THE FALL). The love triangle engenders passion and rage, and Hind’s character finds himself increasingly haunted by apparitions too vivid to be mere nightmares.

Magnolia Pictures is pleased to announce that Conor McPherson's acclaimed ghost story, THE ECLIPSE, grabbed three top prizes at the Irish Film and Television Awards this Sunday, Feb. 21. The film picked up the awards for Best Irish Film, Best Script (McPherson and Billy Roche), and Best Supporting Actor (Aidan Quinn).

What was Mark Whitacre thinking? A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Whitacre suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company's multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn't been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers. Whitacre's ever-changing account frustrates the agents and threatens the case against ADM as it becomes almost impossible to decipher what is real and what is the product of Whitacre's rambling imagination. Based on the true story of the highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in U.S. history.

The Ghost flies out to work on the project, in the middle of winter, to an oceanfront house on an island off the U.S. Eastern seaboard. The controversy brings reporters and protesters swarming to the island mansion where Lang is staying with his wife, Ruth, and his personal assistant and mistress, Amelia. As The Ghost works, he begins to uncover clues suggesting his predecessor may have stumbled on a dark secret linking Lang to the CIA -- and that somehow this information is hidden in the manuscript he left behind. Clay Pigeons Movie Review by movieviewr

Clay Pigeons Movie Review by movieviewr

Buy the Movie Poster for Clay Pigeons

After a decent box office turnout for G.I. Jane, Ridley Scott’s next project was slated to be an adaptation of Richard Matheson’s famed horror novel, I Am Legend. Matheson’s story takes place in a futuristic 1976 where a terrible plague has transformed the entire human race into blood-thirsty vampires. Only one man, Robert Neville, has survived the epidemic. Neville spends his days destroying the undead creatures and his nights trying to survive their hungry wrath.
I Am Legend was first published in 1954 and has since been heralded as one of the finest horror novels of the twentieth century. The story has been adapted to film twice before; once in 1964 as The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price and again in 1971 as The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston. But when Scott’s proposed budget looked like it was going to top one hundred million dollars, Warner Brothers got cold feet and pulled the plug on the film. Instead of jumping right into another directorial job, Scott decided to spend some time with the projects being developed at his production house, Scott Free. This leads us into his producer’s credit on the neo-noir black comedy Clay Pigeons.
Obviously inspired by the Coen brother’s Fargo, Clay Pigeons is a fairly well played, offbeat, crime thriller with a handful of solid performances. It marks the feature film debut of commercial director David Dobkin, who would eventually move into the big leagues with projects like Shanghai Knights and The Wedding Crashers. The screenplay, written by the equally inexperienced Matt Hearly, is sharp and funny.
That isn’t to say that Clay Pigeons is without it’s faults, but if you’re just looking to have a good time you just might want to give it a peek.

She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolf) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job. While his wife and Sy Ableman blithely make new domestic arrangements, and his brother becomes more and more of a burden, an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university. Also, a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while at the same time threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man?

After becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, Amelia was thrust into a new role as America's sweetheart - the legendary "goddess of light," known for her bold, larger-than-life charisma. Yet, even with her global fame solidified, her belief in flirting with danger and standing up as her own, outspoken woman never changed. She was an inspiration to people everywhere, from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to the men closest to her heart: her husband, promoter and publishing magnate George P. Putnam, and her long time friend and lover, pilot Gene Vidal. In the summer of 1937, Amelia set off on her most daunting mission yet: a solo flight around the world that she and George both anxiously foresaw as destined, whatever the outcome, to become one of the most talked-about journeys in history.

Buy the movie poster for Zombieland.

Two men have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss -- but when you're afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-totin', zombie-slayin' badass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

Buy the movie poster for Planet Hulk.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF HURT! He was a monster, impossible to control, too dangerous to ignore. So Earth’s mightiest heroes exiled him into outer space. But now the Incredible Hulk crash lands on the distant planet Sakaar, ruled by the tyrannical Red King. Sold into slavery, Hulk becomes the planet’s mightiest gladiator—but his new masters get more than they bargained for when he forges a bond of brotherhood with his fellow fighters: crafty insectoid Miek, ruthless rock-man Korg, ex-shadow priest Hiroim, and the noble-born rebel Elloe. Unlike Earth, the desperate people of Sakaar believe a monster is just what they need. But will the Hulk be the one to save their world… or destroy it?

Season of the Witch - New website

In the supernatural thriller SEASON OF THE WITCH, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight's pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.
