Lord of War movie review by star757

Lord of War Movie Review by star757

Buy Movie Poster for Lord of War

This movie stars Nicolas Cage as Yuri Orlov, an immigrant from the Ukraine living in New York. He wants to make his mark on the world, to earn his fortune. He starts dealing guns and works his way up the ladder to eventually selling to war lords. Along the way he gets married to his dream girl, Ava Fontaine, played by Bridgette Moynahan. She doens't ask where his wealth comes from, and he never tells her specific details. Jared Leto plays his brother who goes into business with him until he gets hooked on drugs. Also rounding out the cast are an African war lord who he has business dealing with, and a government agent, Jack Valentine, who makes it his life's work to bring Yuri in. The movie is violent, and sad as well. Yuri sees arms dealings as his job and detaches himself from the human aspect, the masses who will be killed with his help. When his wife finally discovers the truth she is shocked and horrified. I find this hard to believe. She was married to him all those years and never really knew him? She didn't question why she never really know about his work? Or was she happy being rich and not knowing. Overall it is a pretty good movie. Interesting to look at how arms dealers work. Nicolas Cage did a good job with his character, as well as Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke.

Happy-Go-Lucky Movie Review by Derek_fleek

Happy-Go-Lucky Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Buy Movie Poster for Happy-Go-Lucky

I’m giving Happy-Go-Lucky one star on the silly, controversial rating scale and tossing my hands in the air. It is a ridiculous film. My not being fond of British humor, nor glorified stupidity, Happy-Go-Lucky lacks any sort of appeal and meanders on for two hours.
The story revolves around Poppy, a childish and slap-happy 30 year-old woman who refuses to live life soberly and tries to make the best out of everything she encounters. However, there are many people around her who don’t exactly live life to the fullest, including her cranky driving instructor and heated ballet instructor. Even when encountering these deadbeats and her own life issues, Poppy maintains to embrace life like gold.
Though Sally Hawkins gives an enthusiastic performance, her character Poppy is naïve, arrogant, and overly-enthusiastic, leaving viewers more or less bothered by her headstrong antics. Her character proves that watching someone routinely happy becomes simultaneously irksome and depressing. Unfunny, overrated, and entirely random, director Mike Leigh’s moderately improvised tale of Poppy is unbearably aggravating and one of the most over-promoted films of 2008.
Nominated for an Oscar for best writing, the only thing I found worth celebrating here are the rolling of the credits once the film ends. It feels like and looks like a mess, unable to please those not fond of British banter.
This British comedy is something that one must acquire a taste for. While others may find it to be intelligent and quick-witted, most of the humor struck me as half-baked, and solely based on adolescent behavior. If there is a meaning, I missed out on it. Sure the character Poppy is admirably optimistic, but that's not a message (at least delivered this way) to carry the film's runtime. It becomes exhausting and leaves one with the impression that it could be enjoyable in very small doses, likely working better as a comedy sketch rather than a full-length feature film.
Mike Leigh gives Sally Hawkins the green light to let loose and improvise the majority of the time. It’s too bad that her skills at improvising might not appeal to those who find her character Poppy to be exasperating. Happy-Go-Lucky becomes a fatigue-inducing two hour moment in British cinema. One accompanied by a half-witted and repugnant character whose only desire is to be exceedingly blissful and entirely disruptive.
Included in the bonus features are an audio commentary by Mike Leigh; "Happy-In-Character," which explores the film's characters in depth and detail; and "Behind The Wheel Of Happy-Go-Lucky," which explores the ability to correctly and accurately display camera angles in a miniature car. 1/5 stars

Pinocchio Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Pinocchio Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Buy Movie Poster for Pinocchio

Walt Disney Pictures resurrects the Academy Award-winning masterpiece Pinocchio, for the first time issued in Blu-ray and standard DVD in one package. Digitally restored to perfection with brilliant animation, inspiring music, and a danger-filled story as charming as it is intrepid, this "70th Anniversary 2-Disc Platinum Edition" of Pinocchio is, simply put, one of Disney’s most cherished releases. This review will concern itself with the standard DVD rather than the Blu-ray version.

As a carpenter, Geppetto is a man with the talent to provide more than enough clocks for a single household and make puppets out of wood. His favorite puppet happens to be Pinocchio, a puppet he one day hopes will become a real boy. As silly as it sounds, the night he wishes upon a star, Pinocchio is brought to life still in puppet form. Pinocchio must go through many challenges including a trip to Pleasure Island where bad is good, peer pressure is tempting, and danger is inevitable, while learning that growing up, and being human, is hard.

The well-known character first appeared in the 1883 novel titled The Adventures of Pinocchio written by Carlo Collodi and was adapted to film in 1940 by Ted Sears and a host of others, who together made what is regarded as one of the greatest Disney films of all time.

Perhaps what makes Pinocchio so idolized is its lovable characters, handcrafted animation, highly moral fairy tale, and catchy, award-winning music. Taking the Oscars for best original score and original song for “When You Wish Upon a Star,” Pinocchio has more than enough charm to please anyone looking to bring out the child within.

The film is a milestone in animation and a daring piece of work. It’s one of Disney’s most daring stories -- exploring underage drinking, smoking, and gambling. While all that may sound more intimidating than entertaining, it uses the story to teach a lesson without sending the wrong message. It's solid entertainment for the young and the old.

The vocals are pitch perfect, the sound is more than magnificent, and the animation more detailed than ever. This new edition of the Disney classic happens to be a very appealing package, but only if you have a Blu-ray player. Included is a standard DVD of the movie, which is convenient and greatly appreciated. However, all of the magnificent special features are on the Blu-ray disc. So if you happen to be unfortunate enough not to have a Blu-ray player or a PS3, you are going to miss out on all of the bonus features that you were possibly dying to see.

Included on the Blu-ray bonus disc are Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes, Never Before Seen Alternate Ending, Disney View-Expanded Viewing Experience, Cine-Explore Experience, Pinocchio Knows Trivia Challenge, Pleasure Island Carnival Games, "No Strings Attached: The Making of Pinocchio," "Geppettos Then and Now," and a commentary track with Leonard Maltin, Eric Goldberg, and J.B. Kaufman. 4.5/5 stars

Six Movies out in Theaters this Weekend!

If you're headed out to the theater this weekend check out these new releases, and look for other great movie reviews, on Popcornmonsters.com

Oscar® winner Julia Roberts and Clive Owen reunite for Duplicity, from writer/director Tony Gilroy (seven-time Oscar®-nominated Michael Clayton). In the film, they star as spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves on either side of an all-out corporate war, they discover the toughest part of the job is deciding how much to trust the one you love. CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen) have left the world of government intelligence to cash in on the highly profitable cold war raging between two rival multinational corporations. Their mission? Secure the formula for a product that will bring a fortune to the company that patents it first. For their employers—industry titan Howard Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and buccaneer CEO Dick Garsik (Paul Giamatti)—nothing is out of bounds. When the stakes rise, no one knows who is playing whom, and the trickiest secret for Claire and Ray becomes their growing attraction. As they each try to stay one double-cross ahead, two career loners find their schemes endangered by the only thing they can’t cheat their way out of: love.

Peter Klaven is a successful real estate agent who, upon getting engaged to the woman of his dreams, Zooey, discovers, to his dismay and chagrin, that he has no male friend close enough to serve as his Best Man. Peter immediately sets out to rectify the situation, embarking on a series of bizarre and awkward "man-dates," before meeting Sydney Fife, a charming, opinionated man with whom he instantly bonds. But the closer the two men get, the more Peter's relationship with Zooey suffers, ultimately forcing him to choose between his fiancee and his new found "bro," in a story that comically explores what it truly means to be a "friend."

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsule's contents and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Caleb's father, professor John Koestler, who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the document's chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events -- the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son. When John's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place. With the reluctant help of Diana Wayland and Abby Wayland, the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased author of the prophecies, John's increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster -- and the ultimate sacrifice.

Once upon a time, Buck Howard (John Malkovich) spent his days in the limelight. His mind-boggling feats as a mentalist extraordinaire – not to be confused with those of a mere magician - earned him a marquee act in Vegas and 61 appearances on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. In his own humble opinion, his talents go far beyond simple sleight of hand – he can read minds and hypnotize not just a single soul but an entire room of people! But nowadays, it’s clear to everyone but Buck that his act has lost its luster; he performs in faded community centers and hasn’t sold out a theater in years. Yet, with a hearty handshake and a trademark “I love this town!” Buck Howard perseveres, confident in his own celebrity, convinced his comeback is imminent. He just needs a new road manager and personal assistant. As it turns out, recent law school drop-out and unemployed, would-be writer Troy Gable (Colin Hanks) needs a job and a purpose. Working for the pompous, has-been mentalist fills the former requirement, but how it satisfies the latter is questionable, especially to his father (Tom Hanks), who still assumes Troy is in law school. Nonetheless, with the aid of a fiery publicist (Emily Blunt) and a bold stroke of fate, Buck surprisingly lands back into the American consciousness, taking Troy along for the ride of his life. As the coveted spotlight again shines on the great Buck Howard, Buck becomes the unlikeliest of teachers as Troy learns a few tricks he couldn’t possibly have picked up in law school.

Sin Nombre is an epic dramatic thriller written and directed by Student Academy Award winner Cary Joji Fukunaga in his feature debut. The filmmaker’s firsthand experiences with Central American immigrants seeking the promise of the U.S. form the basis of the Spanish-language movie. Sin Nombre tells the story of Sayra (Paulina Gaitan), a teenager living in Honduras, and hungering for a brighter future. A reunion with her long-estranged father gives Sayra her only real option – emigrating with her father and her uncle into Mexico and then the United States, where her father now has a new family. Meanwhile, Casper, a.k.a. Willy (Edgar Flores), is a teenager living in Tapachula, Mexico, and facing an uncertain future. A member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang brotherhood, he has just brought to the Mara a new recruit, 12-year-old Smiley (Kristyan Ferrer), who undergoes a rough initiation. While Smiley quickly takes to gang life, Casper tries to protect his relationship with girlfriend Martha Marlene (Diana García), keeping their love a secret from the Mara. But when Martha encounters Tapachula’s Mara leader Lil’ Mago (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), she is brutally taken from Casper forever. Sayra and her relatives manage to cross over into Mexico. There, they join other immigrants waiting at the Tapachula train yards. When a States-bound freight train arrives one night, they successfully rush to board – riding atop it, rather than in the cars – as does Lil’ Mago, who has commandeered Casper and Smiley along to rob immigrants. When day breaks, Lil’ Mago makes his move and Casper in turn makes a fateful decision. Casper must now navigate the psychological gauntlet of his violent existence and the physical one of the unforgiving Mara, but Sayra bravely allies herself with him as the train journeys through the Mexican countryside towards the hope of new lives.

Would-be superhero, Ed Gruberman, who possesses no super powers must join a team of misfit heroes-in-training known as The Super Capers. Having only faith, Gruberman must travel through time to uncover an evil plot involving some gold bullion, a fiery femme fatale, and a criminal mastermind with a dark secret about Ed's past.

Buy the Movie Poster for Casino Royale.

Bond, James Bond. This is the first new James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig. I have not watched the old James Bond movies so I can't say how it is compared to those. It does have a lot of action and some slow parts, but overall a good movie. At the beginning of this movie James Bond is tracking a man with a bomb. When he tries to get away the chase is on. There is a wild few minutes as Bond chases him around, killing people who try to stop him. I found this part a bit far fetched. The two men are like monkeys climbing, jumping and running around. The action sequence is very unbelievable. This is all to show you Bond's reckless nature and ability to take chances. The rest of the movie follows his trip to Montenegro to play poker with Le Chiffre. He is wanted by many countries. Bond travels with an accountant, Vesper Lynd, who becomes his love interest. There's a lot going on in this movie and it's a bit difficult to describe it all. Overall it's worth a watch. Lots of action, but it slows with the poker playing scenes. Watch for twists and turns along the way.

The Limits of Control coming May 2009! Watch the new trailer.

The Limits of Control is the new movie from filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers, Down by Law). The film is set in the striking and varied landscapes of contemporary Spain (both urban and otherwise). The location shoot there united the writer/director with acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love, Paranoid Park).
Isaach De Bankolé stars in the lead role for Mr. Jarmusch; this marks the duo’s fourth collaboration over nearly two decades, following Night on Earth, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, and Coffee and Cigarettes. The Limits of Control also features several other actors with whom Mr. Jarmusch has previously worked, including Alex Descas, John Hurt, Youki Kudoh, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swinton; and actors new to his films, including Hiam Abbass, Gael García Bernal, Paz De La Huerta, Jean-François Stévenin, and Luis Tosar.
The Limits of Control is the story of a mysterious loner (played by Mr. De Bankolé), a stranger, whose activities remain meticulously outside the law. He is in the process of completing a job, yet he trusts no one, and his objectives are not initially divulged.
His journey, paradoxically both intently focused and dreamlike, takes him not only across Spain but also through his own consciousness.

In 1939, animation pioneers Max and Dave Fleischer (Betty Boop, Popeye, Superman) made motion picture history when Paramount Pictures released their masterpiece, Gulliver’s Travels, the second feature-length animated film produced by a U.S. studio. This enchanting adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic 18th century novel went on to earn two Academy Award® nominations for Best Original Song (“Faithful Forever”) and Best Score, and is considered one of the greatest achievements in animation history. Seventy years later, E1 Entertainment proudly presents a digitally restored, re-mastered and enhanced Max Fleischer’s Gulliver’s Travels on DVD ($14.98 SRP) and – for the first time ever in any HD format – Blu-ray ($19.98 SRP). This painstakingly crafted edition includes the complete 77 minute feature plus two fully restored “Gabby” cartoons and the Fleischer Studios documentary short “The Making of a Cartoon” – all contributing to make this the most definitive version of the film ever released on any home entertainment format.
Truly a feast for the eyes and ears, Swift’s ageless fantasy comes to life in this cel-animated Technicolor musical. In the film, Gulliver washes ashore on the mysterious island of Lilliput, where all the inhabitants stand no more than a few inches tall. Gabby, the Lilliput town crier, discovers Gulliver unconscious on the beach, and alerts King Little who sends a mob of townspeople to capture the “giant.” Once awake, Gulliver’s size and strength frightens the Lilliputians, but they soon realize that befriending Gulliver gives them a powerful advantage over their rival neighbors, the equally tiny Blefuscudians. Caught in the feud between the two kingdoms, Gulliver resolves the conflict and reunites a prince with his princess before sailing away in one of the “hap-hap-happiest” endings of all time.
Backed by Paramount and utilizing the talents of 600 of the best artists, Max and Dave Fleischer created Gulliver's Travels, one of the most complicated and detailed animated features ever produced. Their staff toiled for over two years, using twelve tons of paint and 39,000 pencils to create over 639,000 celluloids and 115,000 composite scenes. The “gigantic” titular character was animated using rotoscoping, a process which involves tracing live-action footage frame-by-frame – one of several innovative animation techniques developed by the Fleischers and Fleischer Studios. Popular songs composed for the film include “All’s Well,” “It’s a Hap-Hap-Happy Day” and “Faithful Forever,” all of which later became well-known standards.
By the late 1990s this animated gem had sadly fallen into disrepair, but thanks to a close relationship with the Fleischer family, North Hampton Partners and animation expert Dr. Thomas R. Reich were able to secure a long-lost 35mm source print. State-of-the-art technology enabled the film to be meticulously revived, removing years of dirt and restoring damaged portions of the frames. Gulliver's Travels was then color corrected using 100% historically accurate palettes at Technicolor and was re-mastered for the first time ever in 16x9(1080p High Definition). This entire process was done frame-by-frame without stretching characters or losing any image beyond standard vertical safe areas – and the use of proprietary techniques actually enables more picture to be visible on the left and right sides of the frame than ever before. Additionally, the original soundtrack was fully restored and supplemented by two newly enhanced sound options (Dolby Digital and 5.1) utilizing multi-track Foley techniques. The bonus Fleischer documentary “The Making of a Cartoon” as well as the two Gabby cartoons featured on the DVD and Blu-ray (“Swing Cleaning” and “King for a Day”) were also restored, making Max Fleischer’s Gulliver’s Travels a must-own for fans of classic animation and children of all ages.

Buy Movie Poster for Role Models

In a time when foul-mouthed cinematic comedy is at a high point and crossing the line is something of great attainment, Role Models is raunchy comedy done right. Offensive and touching, rude and meaningful, Role Models is uneven yet gratifying and deep down has a big heart.

After an accident with their company's energy drink vehicle, Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are sentenced to choose between fifteen years in jail or 150 hours of community service. Taking the only logical choice there is, the two must straighten out their act and are forced to volunteer at the Sturdy Wings youth center to mentor a couple of troubled kids. During their time spent at Sturdy Wings, Danny and Wheeler do their best to manage their two "littles" and soon begin to realize these kids are merely misunderstood.

Nominated for a 2008 Critics Choice Award for best comedy, Role Models is a film praised for its raunchy charm and clever jokes. To my surprise, it exceeds expectations by being dead funny and irreverently smart.

Role Models is an occasionally crude, mildly offensive, and always entertaining romp with another deadpan performance from Jane Lynch (The 40 Year Old Virgin) who knocks it out of the park. The young cast includes Christopher Mintz-Plasse as the teen with an overactive imagination and Bobb'e J. Thompson as the unmanageable fifth grader with a gutter mouth. While Mintz-Plasse is all-around fantastic, Thompson can quickly become irritating.

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott execute a number of hilarious one-liners with precision timing. It scores not only a few good laughs, but also a handful of meaningful messages while fulfilling the desire for lewdness. This makes Role Models an enjoyable R-rated comedy with a family amiable message — something wholly original in this genre of comedy. This Apatow-esque comedy team manages to cram a load of tender lessons into a package of filth without ever swamping the importance of those lessons.

Ably directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, The Ten) and intelligently scripted by Paul Rudd, David Wain, Ken Marino, and Timothy Dowling, Role Models' ending may be a bit soggy and tame, but everything beforehand is outrageous fun.

The bonus features are jammed with nearly 25 minutes of deleted and alternate takes and bloopers. "On The Set of Role Models" gives you an inside look at the making of the film. "Game On: Creating A Role Playing World" shows the importance of costumes, fight choreography, and many behind-the-scenes bits and extras. "In-Character and Off-Script" is where you learn about some of the improvisational actors, and there's an audio commentary track with director/co-writer David Wain.

Included on the DVD released by Universal Studios are both rated and unrated versions of the film. The unrated version contains three more minutes of additional jokes and extended scenes that were unseen by the MPAA. Although this footage wasn't examined by the MPAA, it never exceeds being a hard R.

Also, if you're interested, there is an interactive online game, Babe Watcher, found at the film's official website in which you can help Wheeler, Danny, Augie, and Ronnie spot babes to hang out with, but be careful who you check out: if it’s your buddy, you lose a life! 4/5 stars

Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp, comes to theaters July 1st!

In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover’s fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.
No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.
But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI.’’
However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis’ men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous “Lady in Red’’ to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

What to watch this weekend in theaters.

There are a few new movies out this weekend. Watchmen starts tomorrow, as well as Tokyo!, Horsemen, and Phoebe in Wonderland in select theaters.

In an alternate 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen?

At home, hardened police detective Aidan Breslin has grown increasingly distant from his two young sons Alex and Sean since the death of his wife. At work, he finds himself thrust into an investigation of perverse serial killings rooted in the Biblical prophecy of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: The White Horsemen, a master of deception and the unexpected leader hell-bent on conquest; The Red Horsemen, a sharp-witted warrior intent on turning man against man, with an innocence that hides a burning rage within; The Black Horsemen, a manipulative and dark tyrant, unbalanced but always one step ahead; and The Pale Horsemen, an executioner with disarming strength, determined to spread death through surgical precision. As Breslin grapples with each new revelation in the case, he slowly discovers a shocking connection between himself and the four suspects.

Phoebe longs to be in the school production of Alice in Wonderland. After her peculiar drama teacher Miss Dodger casts her, Phoebe struggles to control her behavior so her Principal will allow her to continue being in the play. As Phoebe's stress mounts, her behavior grows worse, creating intense pressure on her parents Hillary and Peter. Hillary, who already feels a failure in both her personal and professional life, desperately tries to understand and help her daughter. But this connection proves elusive as Phoebe begins retreating to an imaginary fantasy world peopled by characters from Alice in Wonderland, a world which grows increasingly disturbing and treacherous. As Alice observes to the Caterpillar, "It is very confusing being so many different sizes in a day," and in the end both Hillary and Phoebe (under Miss Dodger's tutelage) must try to navigate the strange, painful, exhilarating transformation from chrysalis to butterfly.

Michel Gondry) Hiroko and Akira (Ayako Fujitani and Ryo Kase), a young couple, arrive in Tokyo to pursue their careers, moving in temporarily with Hiroko's old friend Akemi (Ayumi Ito), a career girl whose boyfriend quickly tires of the houseguests. Akira, the young man, takes steps towards his ambition to become a filmmaker, but the woman is less sure of herself and gradually she begins to lose herself in the vast city. Ultimately she under-goes a surreal metamorphoses that gives her an unexpected sense of peace and purpose.

The Informers - In Theaters April 24!

In such works as “Less Than Zero” and “American Psycho” Brett Easton Ellis brilliantly dissects contemporary American society, a culture in which too much is never enough. Now, adapting his own acclaimed novel for the screen, he returns to the Los Angeles of the early 1980’s with a multi-strand narrative that deftly balances a vast array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con).
Connecting all his intertwining strands are the quintessential Ellis protagonists—a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs—and one another—with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano. Filmed with uncommon glamour and grit by acclaimed Australian director Gregor Jordan (“Ned Kelly,” “Buffalo Soldiers”), “The Informers” is an alternately blistering and chilling portrait of hedonism run amuck.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Jon Foster, Amber Heard, Rhys Ifans, Chris Isaak, Austin Nichols, Lou Taylor Pucci, Mel Raido, Brad Renfro.

In the Electric Mist review by Star757

In the Electric Mist Movie Review by star757

Buy the Movie Poster for In the Electric Mist.

Available on Blu_ray and DVD, tomorrow, March 3!

This movie is about the Louisiana bayou and the secrets it holds, of the living and dead. It stars Tommy Lee Jones as detective Dave Robicheaux. In this movie a young prostitute is killed and Robicheaux is determined to solve the case. Along with the remains of a body is chains is found in the swamp by an alcoholic young actor on location filming a movie. Robicheaux is connected to this because he remembers seeing this man killed in the 60's. These two story lines intertwine and some people try to keep him out of it. I thought this was a fairly good movie. It has an interesting story line and a creepy feel sometimes. You're not exactly sure what's going to happen and who is behind it all. It's well done in that I couldn't guess who had done it until the very end. Also starring in this movie are Mary Steenburgen as Robicheaux's wife, and John Goodman as Baby Feet Balboni. Balboni is a local rich guy who is always behind bad things. Peter Sarsgaard has a good role playing Elrod Sykes, the alcoholic movie star whose girlfriend is always coming to Robicheaux for help with him. I found the characters interesting, and overall this was a unique movie to watch.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua movie review by Derek_Fleek

Beverly Hills Chihuahua Movie Review by Derek_Fleek

Buy the Movie Poster for Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

There once was a time when you could count on nearly any film made by Walt Disney Pictures to be a sure thing for solid family entertainment, back in the day when Lady and the Tramp and Fox and the Hound came to life. Now Disney produces nearly any project regardless of how contrived, dull, and unclever the script may be. Beverly Hills Chihuahua welcomes itself to the list of disposable talking dog Disney films that include Underdog and The Shaggy Dog remake.

After being left in the hands of her owner Viv’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) niece, a snooty Beverly Hills Chihuahua by the name of Chloe (Drew Berrymore) gets lost while on vacation to Mexico and in the process becomes dognapped for ransom. Papi (George Lopez), a determined Chihuahua in love with Chloe, decides to trace the steps of his love and hopefully rescue her from the dognapper and a secluded German shepherd (Andy Garcia) he is concerned about.

Kids might enjoy the talking dogs (let’s face it, they can be easy to please), but even dog lovers are snubbed of their high hopes that cuteness is amidst. Unfortunately, what was once cute becomes sappy in this fish out of water tale involving an over-pampered, stuck-up, light-skinned Beverly Hills Chihuahua who gets lost in suburban Mexico.

In short supply of character development and character interaction, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is very superficial. First time feature film screenwriters Analisa LaBianco and Jeffrey Bushell’s lackluster script and Raja Gosnell’s horrible execution leaves Beverly Hills Chihuahua a mere notch above its atrocious trailer.

Among the nearly nonexistent supply of amusement Beverly Hills Chihuahua dishes out in its 91 minute run time are Drew Barrymore’s innocent voice and Latino vocals by George Lopez, Luis Guzmán, Andy Garcia, and Paul Rodriguez. Aside from providing a first fifteen minutes that seem almost tolerable, you’re given nothing more than cut-rate CGI lip-assisting laced with a downpour of inoffensive stereotypes.

Sure, it’s harmless, but also entirely unnecessary. You don’t come to expect much from a film entitled Beverly Hills Chihuahua — it’s obviously not out for any awards. But the formulaic route and lack of creativity makes it just another Disney stinker and more than likely it will be forgotten in the process of viewing.

Included in the special features section of the DVD are three deleted scenes with introductions by director Raja Gosnell, a blooper reel titled “Blooper Scooper,” a silly yet mildly informative animated short titled “Legend of the Chihuahua,” and an audio commentary track by director Gosnell. 1/5 stars
