"May" stars Angela Bettis and Jeremy Sisto. It co-stars young Anna Faris, most know her for her dimwitted roles in the Scary Movie franchise. It's written and directed by Lucky McKee, who's directorial debut was "All Cheerleaders Die".
May (Angela Bettis) had no friends as a little girl except for a creepy doll kept in a glass case given to her by here weird mother on here Birthday. With a lazy eye, May grows up lonely working in an animal hospital and assisting in surgery. When May shyly meets a mechanic named Adam (Jeremy Sisto), she becomes obsessed with his hands. The two end up dating until he realizes that she is too bizarre for his taste. This leads to May's desire to create a friend for her doll using some parts of her well known associates.
This is a startling horror movie. The acting done by Angela Bettis was worthy of an award. She displays a character that you can't help but feel sorry for when you know that she is a true maniac. A very strange horror movie that actually frightens audiences for a change. A deeply disturbing look at a very lonesome and isolated character. This will do much more that frighten you, it will haunt you long after the credits roll.
A surprisingly witty and bracing tale of slaughtery. With a more refreshing and mind-altering ending that left me very satisfied. A more modern version of "Frankenstein" with a more diabolic storyline. Very interesting and gripping. A very savvy and vague story with some genuinely chilling moments. Lucky McKee hits the money mark with a truly smart horror movie.
With a touch a black humor and a pinch of severed limbs, this one-of-a-kind slasher flick just might be the scariest movie of 2003. A power-house performance from Angela Bettis ranks up with Sissy Spacek as one of the most disturbing misfit maniacs in cinematic history. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a horror movie that is unsettling. 4.5/5 stars
