I really enjoyed this movie. I just saw it in the theater and thought it was a lot of fun. The whole concept is pretty similar to the first National Treasure movie, but I think it works. All the actors are back: Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, and the addition of Hellen Mirren as Cage's mother. Nicolas Cage plays Benjamin Franklin Gates a treasure hunter who's great grandfather's reputation is about to be destroyed. His great grandfather helped save a large treasure from being discovered by John Wilkes Boothe on the night he assassinated Lincoln. A man named Wilkinson, played by Ed Harris, comes forward with a missing piece of Boothe's diary that he says shows Gates was actually a co-conspirator, not a hero. This is the basis for the whole movie as Gates and his friends set out to restore his great grandfather's reputation. In the diary they find a code that may lead them to the City of Gold, a ancient hidden native American treasure. The movie goes from Washington, D.C., Paris, London, Mt. Vernon, the White House, Library of Congress, and Mt. Rushmore. Along the way we see the relationship between Gates' parents as they haven't spoken in 32 years. Also, Gates and Abigail, played by Diane Kruger, have been dating, but are now broken up. We get to see how these relationships work out. Again we see Gates' sidekick Riley Poole, played by Justin Bartha. I thought it was a great movie. Yes, it has a similar idea to the first movie, but still it's a lot of fun. It's a great action, adventure movie. I did think the first movie was a little more exciting. And, watch for the end...do you think there will be another one? I liked it and if you enjoyed the first National Treausre movie, you'll love this one too.
