This movie was good up until the end. I must say that I did not like the ending at all, and for me that ruined the whole movie. That may give a little bit away, but it is important. This movie is a western that stars Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Christian Bale is a rancher living in Arizona just barely making it and trying to keep his family afloat. He has a wife played by Gretchen Mol and two sons. Bale was wounded in the Civil War and his he owes money on his farm. The movie opens with his barn being burned because he owes money. Then Bale and his sons come across outlaw Ben Wade, played by Crowe, and his gang robbing a Pinkerton stage coach full of money. Wade ends up getting captured in town. Although he doesn't really seem to care. Bale, wanting to make money offers to help transport the outlaw to the town of Contention in order to catch the 3:10 prison train to Yuma. The movie follows their travel through Indian territory, a railway camp, and outrunning Wade's gang, determined to free him. The movie is basically about the two characters. How Crowe plays the tough outlaw that cares about no one but himself, or does he. And Bale plays the down and out rancher who has to prove to his family that he is still a strong man, even though he has a bad leg and their ranch is going to be lost. The movie was ok, but I thought the story could have gone deeper and more background could have been given. I did not like the ending, and for me that ruined the movie.
