Night at the Museum Movie Review by dittlit

Night at the Museum Movie Review by dittlit

Larry Daley, (Ben Stiller) is a divorced father of a 10 year old child, that just cannot seem to hold a job or provide a stable environment to have his son visit more. After several failed attempts at finding a job, Larry finally lands an interview at the the Museum of Natural History in New York. He meets three older, quite crazy night watchmen, and the fun ensues. About 30 minutes into his first shift, the museum comes alive, with the T-Rex bones, seemingly attacking him. After a quick glance at the instructions left for him he realizes that the T-Rex is only looking to play fetch. As he walks around the museum, anything and everything comes alive including, Attila the Hun, African Animals, Teddy Roosevelt, and a quite comical miniature cowboy (Owen Wilson), and Octavius, the Roman leader. As the whole chaos ensues, Larry befriends Teddy Roosevelt who helps restore order that night. There are several comic scenes with a monkey named Dexter. He wants to quit, but cannot because his son is counting on him, as well as meeting a love interest. While I thought the movie had some funny parts, when everything came to live, it was really lacking a story. The son in the movie does not seem believable, and the whole relationship between Larry and him is hastily done. Almost as if it were added in to fill time, as was the relationship between the attractive museum tour guide and Larry, and also the relationship between him and his x wife. The movie tried to tie each of the three relationships in, but it was really poorly done. There was very little character development, which was disappointing. They should have went further with each, or completely cut them out. You will have a couple laughs, but overall the movie was disappointing. If you need an Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller movie watch Zoolander, or Meet the Parents. If it is on tv I would suggest watching it, but I would not suggest renting it.
